Seawater purification

The earth's surface consists mostly of salt water resources, and only a small fraction is fresh water that is safe and available deep in the earth. The salinity of the Baltic Sea is much lower than the ocean average because the Baltic Sea is almost completely enclosed and has a large influx of fresh water from rivers and precipitation.

The salinity of the sea varies from 1% in the northern part to 6—8% in the central part. The saltiest zone is at a depth of 40—70 meters, where the salinity is 15—20%. For comparison, the average salinity of the World Ocean is 35%.

Natural sea water is not suitable for constant drinking because it contains a lot of salts and minerals. So, one liter of the world's ocean water contains about 35 grams of salt, and considering that a person consumes about 2 liters per day, the total salt consumptionš will be 70 grams. The human body can handle only 20 grams of salt per day, and its overdose, firstly, will lead to a heavy load on the kidneys, and secondly, the excess salt will have to be dissolved in fresh water, which will be taken from the body tissues, which will lead to dehydration, gradual dysfunction of all vital body systems and death.

Based on the regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers no. 671, the maximum permissible amount of salts that can be used for drinking water consumption is 1600 mg/l. Waters with a mineralization of less than 1000 mg/l are considered fresh water, but with a higher – about mineral waters.

Sea water also depends on the degree of pollution of lakes and rivers that flow into the Baltic Sea. Thus, it should be taken into account that sea water contains a lot of organic pollution, which comes from human economic activities, sewage and environmental pollutants. Therefore, for drinking water consumption, sea water must be purified before use.

It is possible to purify sea water for drinking water consumption with the help of reverse osmosis. The system helps to desalinate sea and ocean waters to the necessary and safe seawater for drinking water consumption. Šskin system for drinking water consumption is used by sailors and travelers who go on long journeys, šcrossing seas and oceans, thus providing themselves with quality and safe drinking water.

SIA WATEX cooperated with Kārli Bardeli – the first people in the world whereš Crossed the Pacific Ocean in a rowboat, providing it with a high-quality and efficient water desalination device. This helped Karl Bardel to get safe and high-quality drinking water. The full interview with Kārli Bardeli and SIA WATEX company manager Oskar Chodor is available here...
