Water is one of the most important things needed to sustain military operations. Water is needed for hydration (sufficient fluid levels in the body), food preparation, treatment, hygiene, construction, maintenance and many additional tasks.
Water is a liquid that acts as a solvent and transport system in the human body. Water can influence metabolic processes, physical performance characteristics, and mental balance because of its central role in regulation, optimal health, and acute states. Šdisruption of fluid balance, even as little as a 2% reduction in total body water, can significantly affect aerobic performance, orthostatic tolerance, and cognitive function. Fluid balance in the body is maintained by regulating water intake and kidney function. For each person, the requirement for water is determined by the body's metabolic characteristics and gender, external environmental conditions and level of physical activity. Evaluating these factors, it can be concluded that a growing soldier needs a large amount of water.
The main challenge that a water engineer has to face when designing a water treatment facility for the military is the compactness, efficiency and mobility of the system.
SIA WATEX in cooperation with the National Armed Forces of Latvia implemented a water purification station project for the Latvian Army. A mobile water purification system was installed, which included an iron removal stage and reverse osmosis. The station was installed in a mobile, large delivery container, also providing a water reservoir in the volume of 10 m3, so that the prepared water could also be transported.
